The Legal system demands much reflection …… This is Themis the Titan personification of Divine law and good counsel. She was also a prophetic goddess who presided over ancient oracles including Delphi. In this role she was the divine voice who first instructed mankind in the primal laws of justice and morality. Her double edge sword representing cutting fact from fiction, and her blindfold showing she displays no bias as well as suggesting her oracular activity. Themis morphed into the Roman Goddess Justicia who then became the Justice figure we see today often on the roof of courts of Justice. In 2004 Banksy who depicted this archetypal figure as a prostitute in a 20ft solid bronze statue placed on Clerkenwell Green in London, once the site of the largest court in the land and now a masonic hall. The statue was removed a while later and its whereabouts is now not known.
He said …..“It is a monument dedicated to thugs, to thieves, to bullies, to liars, to the corrupt, the arrogant and the stupid.”
“Let there be justice for all. Let there be peace for all. Let there be work, bread, water and salt for all. Let each know that for each the body, the mind and the soul have been freed to fulfill themselves.” Nelson Mandela
